A New Chapter of Turning Hope Into Action

Our family grew! We welcomed our second little one into the world

On November 5, 2021, we welcomed baby David into the world. He is the sweetest little brother to Amelia. It feels like such a dream to have this incredible family when I think back to when I was on my deathbed 13 years ago. And I feel so fortunate to be able to use my time in remission to lead initiatives that are enabling dreams like mine to become a reality for many more people without hope…

I co-founded a new initiative to save lives with hidden cures

Inspired by my experience repurposing a drug to save my life, I co-founded Every Cure with Grant Mitchell and Tracey Sikora to unlock the full life-saving potential of existing medicines to treat every disease they possibly can. Launched at the Clinton Global Initiative, we’re building the first-ever AI-powered, nonprofit drug company focused on repurposing drugs for neglected diseases. So no patient is told “we’ve tried everything” – like I was – when there’s a life-saving cure on the pharmacy shelf.

We’ve made major progress and found our way into the Oval Office a couple times…

Thanks to the incredible support of our dedicated team of advisors, board members, and colleagues across the Castleman Disease Collaborative Network, Every Cure, and my Center at Penn, we’ve achieved remarkable progress. A few highlights include:

  • Utilizing AI to identify the most promising new uses for existing drugs across all 3,000 drugs and 20,000 diseases through Every Cure! And one of our top hit was for a drug that we recently used to save a patient’s life! Watch Video!

  • Successfully identifying and/or advancing a total of 17 repurposed medicines over the last decade by my teams at the CDCN, UPenn, and Every Cure!

  • Celebrating 10 years of life-saving research by the CDCN!

  • Being invited to meet with President Biden’s Chief of Staff to share about Every Cure in the West Wing

Learning that President Clinton had gifted Chasing My Cure to President Biden and that it was in the Oval Office (photo above) was also pretty special. Again, reflecting back on my time 12 years earlier when I was fighting for my life in the ICU, I never could have envisioned that I would be alive today and that my book would be in the Oval Office as a gift from a former President to a current President…

I’m looking forward to sharing more exciting updates in the months ahead!

Happy Holidays from the Fajgenbaum’s!
